French Tureens
Why We Love Them...

French Tureens</br>Why We Love Them...

"Une Soupière" in french, is a tureen that is used to serve soup, stews, and even vegetables or salads, often shaped as a broad, deep, oval vessel with fixed handles and a low domed cover with a knob or handle. So many colors and hand painted patterns with endless creative forms, what's not to LOVE!  Every french household has one, and it usually is displayed in a prominent place in the home. Over the centuries, tureens have appeared in many different forms, round, rectangular, or made into fanciful shapes such as animals or wildfowl.

Louis XIV’s taste for hot, rich stews is often credited as a major influence in the use of tureens. As with anything that he was seen to use, the members of his court and French high society emulated him and used tureens to display their own wealth. In the 18th century, dinner services took on a role of importance and formality. Often the tureen was the principal piece of table settings, as it was much larger than most other items

This Blue & Cream tureen showcases all of the charming details of what makes each tureen a special work of art! Sculpted hand painted handles, with theme of birds, flowers, fruits, greenery, undulated form, and a charming lid bouton.

We love the versatility of using a Tureen for planting a Seasonal plant or Flower arrangement.

A collection of White tureens with the most charming handles on the lids.

You can start your collection by browsing the tureens on our website which are handpicked all over the French countryside!  Happy collecting......
