Oyster Plates
The art of eating oysters is native to France, and have been consumed by the French since the Roman era. Throughout history, oysters have played a role in the lives of some of the most famous French citizens, including philosophers, artists, and kings. From 1837 to 1901, the French considered eating oysters a true art form, so society hostesses delighted in serving their guests with the most beautifully designed plates. In the 1920's beachside resorts in Normandy and Brittany gained popularity, and so did the oyster.
